Director of Product Marketing (Full-Time, Remote)


About this role

    • We’re looking for a leader to run the product marketing function at Chatbooks. You’ll lead a team to focus on what products we focus on and develop, how we position our products in the market, how we price them, and how we message and communicate about all products. Your core job will be to know our user, the products, and the market, and make magic when you connect them. 
    • You will be responsible for determining and driving “how can we best market this?” across our product suite, identifying gaps & opportunities in the market landscape, and running pricing & promotion strategies. 
    • This role will report directly to the Chief Marketing Officer, will lead a small team of product marketing managers and will partner cross-functionally with our product managers.

Job Responsibilities

    Define and drive the “Chatbooks difference” by product, and how we best sell the right product to the right customer: 
    Drive pricing, margins, and merchandising positioning and initiatives: 
    Identify the right problems to solve and opportunities to capitalize on:
    Own and drive market / competitive research: 
    Know the Chatbooks customer and customer behavior better than anyone:
    Lead Product Marketing Team and directly related outputs, including communication and merchandising: 
    • What you'll be Doing:
    • What are our key value prop points by product? 
    • Define and articulate the jobs to be done (JTBD) across our product portfolio (in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders)
    • Map out holes of where we should have new products and what they should solve
    • Map out the matrix of products at Chatbooks and identifies the 4Ps and strategic advantages 
    • Propose A/B tests based on JTBD, positioning, competitor best practices, business objectives, etc.
    • Propose and evaluate pricing and discount strategies
    • Identify that we need to do XYZ, and work with marketing and product teams to help implement XYZ
    • Partner on solutions with campaign manager / creative team 
    • Find the right things to optimize and put resources into 
    • Understand where we sit in the landscape
    • Know what other brands that solve “easy” for parents are doing 
    • Know what other photo printing competitors are doing 
    • Create personas of our customer vs. key competitors’ customers
    • Create and update customer personas for each product, based in data and research
    • Match customer initial order type to best cross-sell and find ongoing revenue opportunities
    • Match most effective communications to different customers (based on products, behaviors, etc.)
    • Partner with team leads to analyze channel success in customer conversion and retention, and help uplevel communication strategies
    • Work with Marketing Team leads and provide input on the ongoing marketing communication calendar: what products should we promote, when, how, and to whom  
    • Work with Product Team to provide input on the positioning of products in-app and on the website to best convert customers with the right product
    • Be the driver and guardian of product messaging, for example by creating internal talking points for each product to help with communication consistency (mini books for mini hands, layflats are great for special occasions, etc)  
    • Continuously optimize marketing messaging around products using data, research and expertise (lifecycle communications, ongoing Journey’s, PDPs, product landing pages, etc) 
    • Work closely with creative and marketing team members to execute and elevate the ongoing campaign strategy
    • Provide regular feedback, map out stretch goals, and hold performance review meetings with product marketing managers (and other team members) to elevate their performance
