VP, Regional Underwriting
WCF is growing and the underwriting department has an immediate opening for someone who can demonstrate the WCF values to join their team as an VP, Regional Underwriting, reporting to the SVP, Underwriting. This position is a full-time, non-exempt position. Preferred job location is WCF's Sandy, UT headquarters. There may be an option to work out of Boise, Idaho or Sacramento, CA satellite offices, depending on selected candidate. This position is open to internal and external candidates.
Oversee and develop underwriting teams to achieve department and company initiatives and strategy.
Attract and retain quality business to achieve loss, retention, profit, and combined ratio targets.
Actively participate in state rate and form development and filings.
Oversee the establishment of guidelines, procedures, policies, and an audit process to ensure quality, integrity, diligence, and sound pricing by the underwriting teams.
Underwrite larger accounts and approve accounts exceeding Director and underwriter authority.
Analyze data to understand trends, progress to goals, underwriter book management and improvement opportunities.
Responsible for underwriting growth and profit goals in non-Utah (Idaho, Nevada, California, Colorado, Arizona) core states.
Monitor industry developments, market conditions, state and federal regulations, and products.
Oversee and develop employees to create job satisfaction, high morale, and technical competency.
Conduct audits to validate underwriting diligence and provide training as needed.
Create and maintain strong positive working relationships with other departments to achieve company goals.
Act as a resource through participation in APCIA, NCCI, CWCI, state bureau and other professional organizations.
Inquisitive, innovative, curious, and goal oriented.
The most qualified candidate will have:
Bachelor's degree in business or related field. Master's degree or CPCU designation strongly preferred.
At least five years of workers compensation underwriting experience, preferably multistate.
At least three years of management experience; insurance company leadership experience preferred.
Multiline underwriting experience preferred.
Excellent knowledge and understanding of state and NCCI workers compensation manuals, statutes, guidelines, rating elements, and the competitive landscape.
Broad knowledge of underwriting coverages, products, insurance company operations and finance.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
Excellent communication, critical thinking, analytical, and technical skills; works with a sense of urgency.
The ability to present key information to executives, brokers, and other key decision makers.
Team-player mindset and willingness to collaborate.
