POSITION OVERVIEW

The Festival Editor is charged with editing, fact-checking, and proofreading Sundance Film Festival print and digital publications.

Working closely under the direction of the Festival Manager, Editing, the Editor works remotely Monday, October 18, 2021 through either Friday, January 14, 2022 or Friday, January 28, 2022 and is required to work extended hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet deadlines and respond to on-call needs.

Top priorities include but are not limited to…

  • Editing, fact-checking, and proofreading the Festival catalog, website content, and additional publications.

  • Enforcing house style to ensure consistency across Festival publications. 

  • Collaborating with writers, assisting the editing manager by providing second reviews, and resolving conflicting opinions to make sound editorial decisions.

  • Working with the Publications Manager and Editing Manager to support other tasks related to the editing process.

 

You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

  • 2 year of editing experience.

  • Solid skills in writing, grammar, usage, spelling, and The Associated Press Stylebook (qualified candidates will be invited to take an editing test).

  • Outstanding communication skills to work effectively with a wide variety of people, including the ability to negotiate edits in a tactful manner and respond gracefully to suggestions, corrections, and feedback.

  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to self-manage a schedule and make decisions in a timely manner to meet deadlines.

  • Working knowledge of databases along with proficiency in Google Drive.

  • Ability to work nights and weekends around events and key deadlines.
