POSITION OVERVIEW

 

Our Director of Marketing is a strategic and dynamic leader overseeing all aspects of marketing, branding, content, archives, digital and print marketing to support and promote Sundance Institute’s programs and fundraising initiatives. This role plays a critical part in advancing the Institute’s mission, driving revenue, and enhancing audience engagement through innovative, data-driven marketing strategies.

 

Working closely under the Chief Revenue Officer, and in collaboration with the Chief Communications Officer, the Director of Marketing is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive, integrated marketing strategies that strengthen the Institute’s brand, expand its audience, and increase philanthropic and earned revenue. This strategic leader plays a critical role in ensuring the Marketing and Communication Department operates with excellence and impact.

 

This full-time position may work remotely from within any of our operating states. Extended and flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, will be required at key points throughout the year. Travel to Institute offices and events will be required.

 

Top priorities include but are not limited to…

  • Developing and implementing a multi-channel marketing strategy that aligns with the Institute’s strategic priorities, ensuring a unified brand identity across all platforms.

  • Overseeing partner content development and leading brand strategy for publications, digital assets, and web presence.

  • Overseeing marketing strategy for Sundance Film Festival ticketing, ensuring an inclusive and accessible approach while driving over annual ticket sales.

  • Managing external agencies and partnerships to enhance brand positioning and audience reach.

  • Overseeing digital marketing initiatives, leveraging social media, paid media, email marketing, and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies to increase engagement and accessibility.

  • Overseeing all Merchandise from concept development to sales.

  • Developing and executing marketing campaigns that directly support fundraising efforts, partnerships, sponsorships, memberships, and ticket sales.

  • Partnering with the Advancement and Partnerships teams to ensure marketing strategies align with revenue-generating initiatives.

  • Utilizing analytics and market research to optimize marketing performance and audience segmentation.

  • Leading, mentoring, and developing a high-performing marketing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.

  • Working cross-functionally with Communications, Advancement, and Partnerships teams.

  • Partnering closely with the Chief Communications Officer to ensure alignment between communications and marketing.

  • Setting clear expectations, delegating responsibilities effectively, and providing development opportunities for both direct and indirect reports.

  • Cultivating a workplace culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, creativity, and excellence in execution.

  • Overseeing the creation and distribution of all marketing materials, ensuring accessibility, inclusivity, and consistency in branding and messaging.

  • Driving process improvements to enhance efficiency, automation, and collaboration across teams.

  • Managing marketing budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources while maximizing impact.

  • Ensuring adherence to brand standards across all programs and initiatives.

You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:

  • 10+ years experience leading marketing teams, with a proven track record of driving audience growth and revenue in a nonprofit, arts, or cultural organization.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience developing and inspiring diverse, inclusive teams.

  • Deep understanding of brand development, storytelling, and marketing best practices.

  • Experience managing large-scale campaigns, digital strategies, and content creation.

  • Exceptional ability to translate marketing efforts into measurable impact on revenue as well as a strong design sense and ability to develop compelling on-brand messaging.

  • Experience leveraging digital and social media technology for brand advancement.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey a compelling marketing vision to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Passion for Sundance Institute’s mission and a collaborative, creative approach to leadership.

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

 

You will be successful in this role if you…

  • Increase marketing-driven revenue from ticket sales, sponsorships, and fundraising initiatives by a targeted percentage year-over-year.

  • Work in partnership with the Chief Communications Officer on all efforts (marketing, social media etc) to make sure all messaging is aligned.

  • Maintain high employee engagement within the marketing team and track professional development achievements.

  • Adopt a proactive and support-driven approach to assisting the Advancement and Partnerships teams.

  • Collaborate with all Sundance Institute departments to produce unparalleled marketing collateral.

  • Build brand awareness and expand the brand position.

  • Supervise all marketing projects from beginning to end.

  • Develop and manage finance and budgets for advertising, marketing, and research efforts.

  • Have the ability to develop strategic social media campaigns and track return on investment (ROI).

  • Work in a highly collaborative manner with the Chief Communications Officer.

 

In addition to an annual salary of $180,000.00 to $210,000.00*, this position is eligible for our comprehensive benefits package, highlights include:

*Final rate of pay is determined based on the applicant's geographic location, relevant experience and skills, and internal equity among similar positions within our organization.
