POSITION SUMMARY
We support our region’s equity-focused, cradle-to-career collective impact effort. The Policy Analyst supports the Vice President of Public Policy to build and implement a policy agenda at the local and state level that supports Promise Partnership Utah’s efforts to achieve equitable outcomes in our community. The Policy Analyst will collaborate with Promise Partnership Utah team members and partners to identify needed changes to systems, pass policy to shift those systems, and shepherd policy implementation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Support Promise Partnership Utah’s local and state policy work in the following ways:
Engage in policy analysis, research, and development
Work with partnerships to surface policy strategies necessary to move their outcomes and co- facilitate streamlined and equitable implementation of policies
Work with other policy organizations on our shared strategies/outcomes (funded partners)
Lead community engagement in our policy work
Monitor legislative, school, city, county committee/board/council meetings
Support policy-related communications, meetings, and events – write talking points; schedule people to testify; write blogs; write action alerts; organize legislative preview event; schedule federal, state, and local meetings with elected officials; draft legislative fact sheets
Track and review bills
Track lobbying to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
Represent our policy work in fundraising, presentations, and other settings
Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with elected officials and stakeholders
An understanding of the culture and realities of historically marginalized communities in the Salt Lake region.
Strong interpersonal, written, verbal communication and presentation skills
Ability to synthesize information and simplify complexity
Analyze and synthesize data to tell a story
Ability to manage multiple details and be a self-starter
Demonstrated ability to work on stressful, time-sensitive matters with internal and external constituents
Ability to complete work in a timely and efficient manner and ensure work is accurate

Ability to flex work hours to include evening and weekend commitments
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in public health, public policy, public administration, nonprofit administration, business administration, social work, sociology, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of applicable experience in government, advocacy, legislative and administrative policy, or equivalent academic experience.
Proficiency with Microsoft suite and project management software.
Speak and write fluently in a second language is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The team member is regularly required to communicate clearly, in oral and written formats, with others in person, over the phone and via other devices. The team member must be able to transcribe, take in new information, prepare and analyze data and figures, constantly operate a computer and other standard office machinery. The team member is required to regularly travel to offsite locations to set-up presentations and displays in physical and electronic mediums. The team member must have the ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects weighing up to 50lbs.
The employee is required to work primarily in-person, in our UP offices during core business hours Monday – Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Fridays. Utah’s Promise currently has a 36-hour work week with Friday afternoons off.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The position is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits. $67,018 - $74,465. Salary commensurate with experience.?UWSL/UP provides a wide range of benefits, including:
