POSITION SUMMARY
The Events and Volunteer Engagement Manager leads United Way of Salt Lake’s volunteer engagement initiatives, volunteer events, and partnerships. This role works to increase retention and grow relationships with corporate partners, individual donors, community-based organizations, and volunteers. The Events and Volunteer Engagement Manager promotes and executes large-scale, community-wide volunteer engagement opportunities and plans smaller volunteer events for a portfolio of corporate partners, both of which effectively support UWSL’s mission and goals and increase participants’ affinity for UWSL. This role plays a key part in creating impactful experiences and deeper alignment with corporate philanthropic values, further positioning UWSL as an expert in community investment and employee engagement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Event Planning and Execution
- Act as lead volunteer coordinator and intern manager for all UWSL signature Year of Action volunteer events and activities (Read Across America Day, Stuff the Bus, Day of Caring).
- Provide support and leadership to the Resource Development (RD) and Marketing teams to help ensure all engagement opportunities are effective, efficient, and meaningful.
- Plan and execute employee volunteer engagement events for corporate partners that are aligned with their interests and UWSL’s mission
Volunteer Program Management
- Develop and maintain volunteer-donor relationships with corporations, working alongside the Promise Partnership Utah (PPU) team to find alignment and connect companies and their employees to one-time or recurring volunteer opportunities.
- Advise the volunteer engagement communication strategy to identify new ways of messaging volunteerism, identifying new opportunities to communicate with different audiences, and identifying opportunities to segment the volunteer base and target specific asks individuals.
- Collaborate with Marketing and RD Department staff to support content for Impact Newsletter/Volunteer Newsletter and General Volunteer Communication.
- Coordinate in partnership with The PPU team donation drives and in-kind efforts that benefit UWSL’s community schools and partners.
- Manage Golden software to post and track volunteer sign-ups and work with the Data Insights Manager to ensure data is accurate and complete in Salesforce
Corporate and Community Engagement
- Research, develop, and implement new strategies and best practices to strengthen resource development results for volunteerism via conversion to new individual donors, increased corporate gifts, grants, event sponsorships, in-kind donations, and more
- Cultivate and oversee authentic relationships with current and prospective corporate donors and community organizations with strong executive-level attention through personal contact, including phone calls, email, written correspondence, and visits; set appointments and meet with prospects and current corporate donors and volunteers
- Oversee the capture and analysis of volunteer engagement data for Year of Action events, school/center events, ongoing volunteers, Volunteer Action Network members, corporate volunteers, and individual volunteers. Collaborate with individual engagement teams to ensure that individual and corporate giving strategies align.
- Support new business prospecting, networking, and engagement with the Vice President of Donor Engagement.

BENEFITS
The position is a full time, exempt position with full benefits. $43,000 – 65,000. Salary to be commensurate with experience. Utah's Promise is a hybrid workplace; team members work in-person, at our downtown office, four days per week and provides a 36 hour work week.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5 years of experience in event planning, volunteer management, nonprofit fundraising, or related areas.
- Proven experience planning and executing successful events, preferably in a nonprofit or corporate environment
- Experience managing volunteer programs
- Proficient in Microsoft and Google Suites – proven skill in Excel
- Experience using CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software; Salesforce preferred
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or relevant experience preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee is regularly required to communicate clearly, in oral and written formats, with others in person, over the phone and via other devices. The employee must be able to transcribe, read extensively, prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer and other standard office machinery. The employee is required to regularly travel to locations outside of UWSL facilities to set-up displays and presentations in both physical and electronic forms. The employee must have the ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects weighing up to 50lbs.
