Primary Function of Position

As the MRS Volunteer Program Supervisor, you will recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers from faith-based organizations and the greater community. The MRS Volunteer Program Supervisor is responsible for developing volunteer positions and opportunities based on refugee client needs. The MRS Volunteer Program Supervisor also oversees volunteer orientation, retention, and recognition within the Migration and Refugee Services department. This role also involves engaging with local businesses and organizations to develop partnerships outlined in the POWIR grant.

 

Major Position Responsibilities

  1. Orientation Coordination: Coordinate and present monthly volunteer orientations at the various MRS facilities and conduct outside orientations as needed.
  1. Mentoring Program Development: Focus on faith-based organizations and develop the family mentoring volunteer program to support newly arrived refugees.
  1. Volunteer Contact: Regularly contact volunteers via phone or email.
  1. Recognition Event: Organize and host an annual volunteer recognition event.
  1. Training Resource Enhancement: Continually update and improve training resources for volunteers.
  1. Supervision: Supervise Americorps VISTA and the MRS Volunteer Programs Specialist in volunteer coordination, training, and related duties.
  1. Staff Training: Provide training and support for staff working with volunteers.
  1. Logistical Support: Provide logistical support for all volunteers after placement.
  1. Match Meetings: Oversee the coordination and attend match meetings with relevant staff and refugee clients, such as attending refugee family introductions with family mentors and newly arrived refugee families.
  1. Volunteer Recruitment: Develop and recruit for longer-term volunteer positions and one-time volunteer opportunities in collaboration with the Refugee Resettlement Program Manager and staff.
  1. Database Management: Support and assist in managing the agency's volunteer database system.
  1. Volunteer Files: Oversee the setup of new volunteer files and process background checks.
  1. Reporting: Write quarterly reports for the USCCB POWIR program when the grant is received.
  1. Clerical Support: Provide clerical support and maintain volunteer personnel files.
  1. Communication: Communicate with the Migration and Refugee Services staff about the volunteer program.
  1. Staff Reporting: Assist MRS Staff with volunteer-specific reporting.
  1. Partnership Development: Develop and maintain partnerships that enhance the volunteer-client relationship, such as with the Real Salt Lake Foundation and the English Skills Learning Center.
  1. Meeting Attendance: Attend staff meetings.
  1. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

  1. This role is in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.??

Physical Demands?

  1. While primarily a sedentary role, some filing tasks are involved. This entails lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and occasionally bending or standing as needed.?

Education, Training, and Experience

  1. Educational Requirement: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
  1. Volunteer Program Experience: Experience developing or managing a volunteer program in the non-profit field.
  1. Administration Experience: Experience in the administration of a volunteer program.
 

Background Screening Requirement

  1. Must pass a national BCI/FBI background check.

Licenses, Certifications, and Credentials

  1. A current Utah driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance meeting minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident. Additionally, be 21 years of age or older, maintain a clean driving record, and have the capacity to fulfill CCS vehicle safety standards.
 

Position Status and Expected Schedule

  1. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.
  1. Office hours are scheduled from 8:30 am to 5 pm, with occasional flexibility for evenings and weekends.
